A chauffeur drives, a guide explains

Our chauffeurs know Munich very well. They know where to stop, how to reach the Allianz Arena and which street is quicker when there is traffic. What they do not do is tell you why the Frauenkirche has two unequal towers or what exactly happened in the Olympic Park in 1972. That is what guides are for.

You add the guide to the drive. He gets in with you, accompanies you for the whole day and comes along on foot whenever you get out. In English, German, Italian, French, Spanish, Arabic or Russian, depending entirely on who you have sitting in the car with you.

Private city guide in Munich

The most frequent use is the guided city tour: three hours or half a day through Munich, with the car between the stops and on foot wherever it is worth it. Your guide adapts to what your group is actually interested in. In front of the Residenz you can stand for ten minutes or for a full hour, and that is decided by your interest rather than by any plan of ours.

Just as often our guides accompany day tours to Neuschwanstein, the Eagle's Nest or Salzburg. Two hours of driving is a great deal of time in which to explain something, and it makes the visit afterwards look rather different. For guests from abroad that is frequently the difference between a nice photograph and a real understanding of what they see.

Our Fleet

As a management consultant I fly a great deal, so I ride with them almost every week — and I'm extremely satisfied! The cars are always impeccably kept, usually luxury-class limousines like the Mercedes S-Class or the BMW 7 Series.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which languages do you offer guides in?
English, German, Italian, French, Spanish, Arabic and Russian are standard. Rarer languages we organise with some lead time. Do ask even if the language sounds unusual to you, we will look into it for you.
What does a tour guide in Munich cost?
The price depends on duration and language and is fixed in advance. If you book guide and vehicle together we invoice both as one. The guide is also bookable without a car if you are only walking.
Is the chauffeur also the guide?
No, those are two separate roles. Your chauffeur drives and knows the city practically, your guide tells the history behind it. Both together is the norm for guests from abroad.
Does the guide accompany day tours as well?
Yes, very often. To Neuschwanstein, the Eagle's Nest or Salzburg the two hours of driving are enough time to place the destination in context. The visit afterwards looks rather different.
Can we specify a subject?
Yes. The Wittelsbachs, post-war architecture, beer culture, art, the National Socialist period: tell us at the enquiry what interests you and we will choose a guide who has something to say about it.
How early should we book?
For English and German a few days is often enough. For rarer languages and in high season allow one to two weeks, because the good guides are taken by then.
Guide in Munich

Tour guide for your guests in Munich

The guide is booked most of all by companies with international visitors. A delegation from Asia has a free afternoon, a group of clients from the United States stays over the weekend. In both cases it would be a shame to send them off to the hotel with nothing but a street map, and nobody on your own team has the time to play tour guide for a whole afternoon.

The second case is private travellers who want more than the standard loop. Anyone interested in the Wittelsbachs, in the years between 1919 and 1923 or in the architecture of the post-war decades gets a guide who has something to say about it. Tell us the subject when you enquire and we will select a guide accordingly.

The language is very often the deciding factor of all. A guest guided in Arabic or in Russian rather than in English takes considerably more away with them. We have guides for the common languages and organise rarer ones with some lead time. Simply ask, even if the language sounds unusual to you.

For an enquiry we need the date, the duration, the language, the number of guests and the subject, if indeed there is one. Guide and vehicle we invoice together and you receive one fixed price for the whole day. The guide can, incidentally, also be booked without a vehicle if you are only walking.
