Salzburg Tour from Munich, Private

An hour and a half

A city that deserves a whole day

Salzburg lies an hour and a half from Munich, and that is the real argument for it. You set off after breakfast, are in the old town before eleven and have the entire day ahead of you, without anybody breathing down your neck about the journey back. The drive itself runs along Lake Chiemsee and the Alps.

We drop you at the edge of the old town, which private vehicles may only enter in part, and collect you again wherever you like. Your chauffeur waits throughout. Vignette and tolls are included in the fixed price and an identity card is sufficient for the border.

What you should see

Salzburg day trip from Munich

The old town is compact and entirely walkable: the Getreidegasse with Mozart's birthplace, the cathedral, the Residenzplatz and the Mirabell gardens. Hohensalzburg Fortress is a few minutes away by funicular, and from up there you see the Alps and understand at once why the city stands precisely where it does. Four to five hours on site cover all of that.

Anyone with more time on their hands adds Hellbrunn Palace with its famous trick fountains or drives out to Lake Fuschl. Sound of Music enthusiasts know their own list already, and our chauffeurs know the filming locations to go with it. Tell us at the booking what you are aiming at and we will plan the order so that you never drive the same stretch twice.

As a management consultant I fly a great deal, so I ride with them almost every week — and I'm extremely satisfied! The cars are always impeccably kept, usually luxury-class limousines like the Mercedes S-Class or the BMW 7 Series.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the drive from Munich to Salzburg take?
Around an hour and a half via the A8, past Lake Chiemsee. The vignette, the tolls and the border crossing at Walserberg are included in the fixed price. An identity card is enough and checks are only occasional.
How much time should we allow for Salzburg?
A full day. Four to five hours for the old town, the cathedral, Mozart's birthplace and Hohensalzburg Fortress. Anyone adding Hellbrunn or Lake Fuschl needs more. Half a day is genuinely not enough.
Can you drive into the old town?
Only to a limited degree, as there are access restrictions. We drop you at the edge of the old town, from where everything is walkable. For the pick-up we come to any point you name us.
Do you do Sound of Music tours?
We drive the filming locations if you wish: the Mirabell gardens, Leopoldskron Palace, Hellbrunn, Nonnberg. For the stories behind them we recommend a guide, whom you can add through us.
What does the Salzburg tour cost?
The price depends on vehicle and duration and is fixed in advance. It applies to the car rather than per person. Vignette, tolls, parking and waiting time are included, and admission you pay yourself.
Is the tour worth it during the festival?
Yes, and it is a frequent reason. You see the city, attend the performance in the evening and still sleep in your Munich hotel rather than paying Salzburg festival rates. Your chauffeur waits for as long as it takes.
Salzburg privately

Salzburg tour from Munich with a chauffeur

Salzburg is usually underestimated from Munich. Many visitors tack it onto half a day, realise at four that they have only just begun and drive back with the feeling of not having seen the city at all. An hour and a half of driving is not an excursion to squeeze in somewhere, it is a full day out, and it deserves to be planned exactly that way.

The train works too, but Salzburg main station sits well outside the old town and the timetable alone dictates your return. Anyone still sitting over dinner at half past seven has no problem at all with a chauffeur and a considerable one with the railway. That is precisely why most of our guests book this tour privately.

In summer, during the festival season, the city fills up and the hotels become very expensive. That is the second good reason for a day trip out from Munich: you see the city, you hear the performance and you still sleep in your own hotel bed. Your chauffeur waits outside the Festspielhaus for as long as the performance takes.

For an enquiry we need the date, the pick-up address, the number of guests and whether you would like a guide along. You receive a fixed price for the whole day including vignette, tolls, parking and waiting time. Three of you travel in the E-Class or the S-Class, six in the V-Class.
