780 kilometres, around seven and a half hours via the A9 and the A7. It is by far the longest domestic route we drive regularly, and nobody books it because it is faster than the flight. It is booked for two other reasons: because it is predictable, and because you can sleep through it.

For overnight drives we use the S-Class or the V-Class. The rear reclines a long way, blankets and pillows are on board, the interior light stays off and nothing at all is said. You sleep from Ingolstadt through to Hanover, which is a good five hours at a stretch. Your chauffeur takes his breaks without ever waking you and is prepared for exactly this route.
We serve Hamburg Airport as readily as any address in the city itself, from the harbour up to Hamburg-Nord. If you are flying onwards from HAM we need the flight number, and we then plan the arrival with a comfortable buffer. At 780 kilometres the honest answer is usually: take the flight. One hour in the air against seven and a half hours on the road is not a fair comparison, and we say so on the phone when somebody calls and is unsure. We are not going to sell you a journey that makes no sense. This page exists for the cases where the arithmetic looks different.
The most important of those is the overnight drive. If you must be in Hamburg at seven in the morning, flying would mean getting up at four, being at the airport at five and arriving just after eight, which is too late. The car leaves at eleven the evening before, you sleep on the way and you are there on time. You save the hotel as well.
The second case is the group. Six people to Hamburg costs six flight tickets, six transfers to the airport and six transfers into the city at the far end. A Sprinter costs once. From four people with luggage the drive already adds up in many cases, and on an overnight run it does so comfortably.
